Two (or More) Heads are Better than One

Problem solving is played best as a team sport. There is no substitute for collective experience and brainstorming.

At my prior law firm, I benefited from walking into the office of lawyers with 30 and 40 years' experience and bouncing my cases off of them (countless hours with Mike Nelligan and Rick Danser come to mind). The first thing we did when we formed Plosia Cohen was to institute a policy of conducting regular meetings. Not just meetings for the sake of meetings. But real, substantive, meetings to discuss our ideas, problems and innovative solutions.

If we are fortunate enough to be part of a team, why not take advantage of our teammates' unique viewpoints and experience? Bouncing our ideas off of colleagues will let us hear our own reasoning out loud. Sometimes when we verbalize a thought to another human being, it is only then that we start to see different nuances.

In sum, meaningful collaboration can be the difference between good and great. Our clients deserve nothing less.
