Two Key Ways to Turn Your Followers into Your Friends.

Social Media is meant for engagement. Whether it is an interaction between a brand/customer or influencer/follower, social media provides the opportunity to build valuable and long-lasting relationships.

Here are my two tips on the social media road to friendship.

Be Human.

Don't be afraid to share your personality. Be authentic. Type like you talk. All of these actions show how relatable you are and also makes you approachable. Don't always get caught up in a constant pressure to showcase who you aspire to be. Sometimes being YOU is enough.

What I'm trying to say, is you're human. Tweet out your opinions. Snapchat behind the scenes of your daily life. Share photos of your dog, family or whatever you enjoy on Instagram. There's no algorithm to being you, so just be.

Be a Friend.

A good friend. Don't be that person who's always talking about him/herself. Good friends are listeners.

In other words, don't just post and dip; engage with your followers and their content. Tweet them back. Comment on pictures. It's a good way to show that someone is listening and it creates this interaction on social media.

I've made friends with the @SacramentoKings and their social community because of our engagement on Twitter during games. Our social media relationship has led me to an even larger and meaningful relationship with the organization. 

Follower engagement, customer advocacy, brand loyalty or new friendships on and offline, are just a few of the many benefits of building a relationship with your audience on social media.
