1. Two Key Moments in the Prosecution’s Case Show the Inhumanity of Chauvin’s Actions
The defense offered a twofold defense here—one that any force was reasonable and necessary, and second that if George Floyd died it was from something other than the 9:29 seconds he was held on the ground with a knee on his neck.
To counter that defense the prosecution offered four medical experts who testified it was not a sudden cardiac arrhythmia, and one offered that it was not a heart attack.
To counter the idea that this was reasonable force, seven experts testified. That included Sgt. David Ploeger who testified that force should have ended right after Floyd was taken to the ground. And others who argued that it was “unnecessary,” “unreasonable” use of force.
2. George Floyd Murder Trial Coming to a Close – Schleicher and Nelson Make Closing Arguments
After nearly three weeks of testimony, and nearly as long for jury selection, the trial of ex-cop Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd went to the jury Monday here.
Prior to the closing arguments, Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill instructed the jurors on the law that describes all the charges for Chauvin, with familiar admonitions that jurors need to eliminate anything they have heard outside of the evidence presented to them, and that Chauvin is presumed innocent of the charges unless or until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Retired Judge Tomar Mason wrote an opinion article in the San Francisco Examiner last Friday, urging San Franciscans to think critically about the current recall campaign against District Attorney Chesa Boudin, complementing Boudin’s accomplishments and giving an endorsement of his progressive platform.
