Historic Bronze in Shooting

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh have made history by clinching a bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event, marking India's first medal of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal and the first Indian to win two medals at a single edition of the Olympics.

A Strong Contingent

A total of 117 Indian athletes, including five reserves, are competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which runs from 26th July to 11th August. Indian athletes are participating in 69 medal events across 16 sports: Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Equestrian, Golf, Hockey, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Tennis. Notable Indian athletes in the spotlight include, Neeraj Chopra, who is a part of the 29-member Indian athletics team in Paris. Other returning Olympic medalist's include badminton star PV Sindhu, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, and members of the Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s hockey team.

A Glorious Legacy

India's Olympic journey began with Norman Pritchard's dual silver medals in Paris 1900. KD Jadhav was the first individual athlete from independent India to win an Olympic medal, securing a wrestling bronze at Helsinki 1952. Karnam Malleswari became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal at Sydney 2000. Abhinav Bindra earned India’s first individual gold medal in shooting at Beijing 2008, a record unmatched until Neeraj Chopra's javelin gold at Tokyo 2020. In 1927, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) was officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee. Initially responsible for selecting athletes, the IOA later focused on logistics, while National Sports Federations handled selections and training. The IOA also expanded to send teams to the CGF and OCA Games.

Aiming for New Heights

At Paris 2024, India aims to surpass its previous achievements. With a strong force of dedicated athletes and a proud history of Olympic success, the nation looks forward to celebrating more victories and making unforgettable memories. Each athlete's dedication inspires millions back home, igniting hope and pride in every Indian heart. As the games continue, the excitement builds, and India's Olympic journey continues to hold a greater promise to excel.
