Two days hands on workshop on “Software Patents, Inventions and Valuation”

In the last quarter century, we have seen unprecedented increase in Globalization, Innovation and Complexity. The new world is characterized by extreme pace of change. In this new world, the key currency of value is the produce of the human mind which gets global legal protection in the form of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Every organization worth its salt in the world needs to understand, protect, and leverage its IP. Most lucrative form of intellectual property – which has become the new currency of the globalizing world – are Patent rights – set of exclusive legal rights associated with a technical solution to a problem that is novel and inventive or non-obvious. Second pillar of these changes that have emerged in the technology driven globalizing world is Software.
Although the world has progressed in many dimensions in the field of software or more generally information technology, it is clear, that understanding the very nature of this technology has relatively been a new phenomenon and still evolving in human comprehension. When one applies the concepts of patents from the pre-globalizing world to the software intensive globalizing world of today, the changes, pitfalls and challenges are not straight forward to fathom, to say the least.
