Practice makes perfect, they say. Well, maybe, but that is not our goal. I imagine all the perfectionists now rolling their eyes in disagreement, but hear me out.
Of course that your and my goal are the same – to reach fluency, right? But fluency is not about perfection, it is about understanding and being understood. It is about being comfortable speaking in any situation. That is why you need practice.
Practice allows you to make mistakes you need to make. And you need to make them so you can correct them and talk with confidence and without confusion. So, perfection is not the goal, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to get perfect. Also, there is nothing wrong with making mistakes. Even when you are fluent.
So, we established that daily practice is necessary for reaching fluency. But don’t be afraid – you don’t have to commit all day every day to practice. Actually, you will be surprised when you hear how little of your time daily practice can take away. And you can do it all by yourself!
I always suggest that you dedicate your mornings to learning. Your focus is better, your mind is fresh, and you are not distracted by the stress you maybe had that day at your work. So, get that daily practice first thing in the morning.
I know you probably have busy mornings, but believe it or not, even two minutes in the morning can make wonders. Yes, just a few minutes.
If you don’t have anyone to practice with or you don’t know how to engage in a conversation with your colleagues is no problem! Stand in front of a mirror, ask yourself a question and answer it: what is your plan for today, how’s that project at work coming along, don’t forget the dentist appointment at six, what are you planning to buy for a friend’s birthday... Once you make this your routine, you will get the first exercise done before your day even starts.

Why is this important? Being in a situation to make a sentence, you will recognize when you miss a word, or what is confusing you in speaking, and this is completely normal. That is also a way for you to find out what you have to work on.
The second exercise you can also implement every day all by yourself is reading out loud. This way you can hear your pronunciation and discover any problematic words and sounds. Reading out loud is a great way to enrich your vocabulary and learn new words, but you will also learn the proper sentence structure and order of the words in different sentences.
Both exercises do exactly what they should: they teach you when and what mistakes you are making, and they are making you comfortable with speaking.
That is an excellent path to fluency.
In my program, I assign you exercises and work on your vocabulary, pronunciation, and correcting mistakes, so you can become fluent in 12 weeks.
