The two confluences: Digital-Data and IT-OT
I have been spending a lot of time addressing data-related problem statements. Need for two key areas of confluence is emerging:
1. Digital and Data
Digital focuses on ways of working that update or transform processes, products, and services through platforms, tools, and devices.
Data focuses on information collection, storage and analysis by building Data Architecture, ensuring Data Governance, Data Analytics and enable Data Monetization
However, they are emerging as organizational, functional, and budgetary silos, this confluence is needed as they have same shared goals:
2. IT and OT
IT (Information Technology) focuses on enabling Digital through products, platforms, and tools.
OT (Operational Technology) focuses on devices enabling physical world by managing, observing and securing operations.
Although IT and OT traditionally exist in separate organizational, functional, and budgetary silos, their confluence is needed as they are driven by a common set of objectives:
Conclusion
For Product Managers, it is not longer beneficial to focus learnings in just Digital. They need to expand to Data also. And not restrict to IT, but expand into OT too.
