Two Coins, Memories – A Personal Reflection

I wasn’t expecting to find them.
Two coins, neatly tucked away in small, green, elegant pouches. For a few seconds, I just held them in my hands, turning them over, feeling their weight.
And then—the memories rushed back, memories of an incredible cruise. Of conversations shared. Of moments that made me pause and truly appreciate the people I was surrounded by.
A Tradition of Gratitude
I’ve always appreciated the Military Appreciation Gatherings we hold on every cruise, on every ship.
Each time, I make an effort to attend, to watch, to listen—because what happens in those rooms is something special. Veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and their friends come together—not just to receive recognition, but to connect, to reflect, to support one another.
There’s laughter, there are stories, and sometimes, there are quiet moments where you can see the emotions in their eyes.
Maybe it’s because I served—even if only for a short time. Maybe it’s because my own family has a history of service in the great wars. Whatever the reason, something about these gatherings has always resonated with me.
But on that one particular cruise—one I will never forget—I didn’t just watch from the sidelines. I experienced something truly extraordinary.
The Special Forces Cruise That Changed Everything
?? I thought I knew what to expect. I was so wrong.
When I learned I would be sailing on a Special Forces charter, I honestly wasn’t sure what to think.
Like many, my understanding of Special Forces soldiers came from movies and TV shows. They’re always portrayed as intense, serious, focused on the mission. I imagined a ship filled with quiet professionals, moving through the decks with precision, maybe a little distant from the usual cruise atmosphere.
But the reality?
They were the most laid-back, welcoming, and down-to-earth guests I’ve ever met.
They laughed. A lot. They told stories. They enjoyed every moment they had together.
It was their camaraderie that struck me the most—it wasn’t just friendship; it was brotherhood. A bond forged through life's toughest trials.
They honored those who had served before them. They supported those still serving. And through it all, they made sure to celebrate life and the time they had with each other.
That cruise wasn’t just another voyage. It was something I was privileged to witness.
And it's why those coins mean so much to me.
Two Coins, A Lasting Memory
Holding them in my hands, I could see their detailed design, their craftsmanship. But more than that, I could feel the weight of the memories attached to them.
They weren’t just two coins. They represented an entire experience, a moment in time that I didn’t want to forget.
Now, I carry them with me as a reminder. Of what I saw. Of what I learned. Of the strength, resilience, and deep connection between those who serve.
And as long as I have them, that memory will never fade.
A Salute to Those Who Support The Heroes
I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible organizations that continue to support veterans, active service members, and their families every single day:
Their work is vital, and I’m honored to highlight them.
??? A Special Shoutout – Excalibur Industries
Before I end, I have to recognize the company behind these incredible coins—Excalibur Industries.

Their craftsmanship is stunning, their work is meaningful, and they deserve all the support we can give.
And Finally – A Thank You to Everyone Who Made That Cruise Possible
It’s easy to see moments like the Special Forces charter as just another event, something that happens behind the scenes.
But the truth is—it takes a lot of effort, planning, and dedication from so many people to make these things happen.
So to everyone in our companies Carnival Cruise Line & Carnival Corporation who worked hard on this event—and to mainly Christine Duffy , who ensures that military appreciation is not just a tradition, but a real part of our culture—thank you.
These moments matter. To our guests. To our crew. To me.
To All Who Serve – You Are Appreciated.
If I’ve learned one thing over my years at sea, it’s that military service leaves an imprint—not just on the ones who serve, but on those who have the privilege of meeting them.
So to those reading this, to those I’ve met onboard, and to those I have yet to meet—thank you.
You are seen. You are valued. You are never forgotten.
