I received a question today - How Can I Better Promote My Photography Business?
Word of mouth takes so long when you start a business. I swear there has to be a better way than Facebook all day and night. Photos can speak a thousand words but seems like they can't get you a thousand clients. What helps and works for you to reach new clients with your business?
My response to the question: Here are the two best ways to promote your business.
As a coach I teach networking first... if you join a SOLID group- wherever you might live - see if they have been around a few years or that their members are dedicated if it's a newer group. Ask about the number of referrals and the amounts. Having 25-30 walking billboards for your business is a great head start. Cost could be up to $1000/yr but usually worth it.
Then JV (joint venture) partnerships are amazing. So all wedding chapels, banquet halls, florists, jewelers, wedding dress shops, civic or fraternal organizations, biker groups (they love pics on their bikes), and so many more make great JV partners but you have to put in the time to meet with each one and give them a reason to refer. Sometimes - i.e. a $4000 wedding shoot give a 10% referral fee. Sometimes it can be other services or simply because they like you and trust you. That only happens when you meet and share.
But you need a Market Dominating Proposition. What do you offer that other photographers do not? For instance.. if you hire me I can get you 10% off your (wedding dress) (Caterer) Flowers) (Limo) etc... that NO ONE ELSE is offering...
