Twitter is one of the best places and a unique platform to meet entrepreneurs, big brands, small local business, your competitors, ordinary people, celebrities and politicians to communicate, complain and sell your services. I love it.
Social media has this amazing ability to take normal people and thrust us into the lime light which allows you to interact, and get involved with so many things. Last year we were invited to be involved and to sponsor the David Bowie Banner Stand restoration project in Beckenham. We helped promote this amazing project, and had likes and re tweets from Woody Woodmansey (the drummer who played on the Spiders from Mars and Ziggy Stardust album). and Mike Garson (The Piano Player on the album) The organisers contacted us through twitter after noticing our activity and on line presence, it made us feel part of the restoration (my partner is a life long Bowie fan so jumped at the chance to be involve) this wouldn′t have happened on any other social media platform.
Sorry for the digression but the reason for this article is to tell you about the "little blue tick" and what it means to your brand or business to have it verified on Twitter.
My main objective was there must be significant advantages for a business/brand to be Twitter verified and get that "little blue tick", all you have to do is to be considered as "public interest" In my opinion it would give customers trust in your brand. I realise that you have to have an a good product or service that you would like to shout about and having this little blue tick with gain trust and help you business a lot.
Now I do post on twitter a lot, real time and schedule, I have over 5,000 followers and do interact a lot, use hashtags and networking hours. I think it may increase the amount and the quality of your followers which can only be a good thing.
So this is going to be easy, or so I thought....All you have to do is to update your profile with your current relevant information, a phone number and email address, then fill out a form requesting consideration as a verified user. So I went through the process...
I completed my profile including a profile picture, a cover photo, name, website, and a bio. Making sure your Bio is relevant and has all the key information.
Added a verified phone number and confirmed my email address
Added my birthday (gutted I had to do this one)
Set my tweets to “public”
Then I go to twitter and fill out the verification form, and in 500 words tell them why I feel our business should be verified. You have to list at least 2 online links to your Website, Facebook, LinkedIn profile, Google Plus or Instagram account etc. Its a maximum of 5 so I opted for the 5 (why wouldn′t you). Now I have done this process on 2 occasions and been unsuccessful.
Fortunately you can submit another request for the same account 30 days after receiving the email that you weren′t successful. So I am now going to try again. Am I wasting my time ? has anyone else gone through the process, have you succeeded or given up, or do you think its not worth a tick ?
