Twitch co-founder & CEO stepping down after 16-year run; UTA partner sets exit to form new ventures; and more
Emmett Shear, who co-founded and ran Twitch during a 16-year run, has decided to step down from his post. President Dan Clancy will take over the top job, effective immediately.?
Shear said he had been reconsidering his priorities after becoming a parent. In a farewell blog post, he called Amazon the “ideal” corporate parent. The tech giant acquired Twitch in 2014 and has made the livestream platform known for its strong hold on gamers and young online audiences an increasingly central part of its pitch to advertisers. Even as Amazon’s overall business has struggled, advertising is a growth area, rising 19% year-over year in the most recent quarter.?

Nine years after joining?UTA?as a partner and talent agent,?Brian Swardstrom?is leaving to form new ventures. That will include producing several projects with his husband, Oscar-winning producer?Peter Spears, whose credits include?Nomadland, Bones and All?and?Call Me by Your Name. Swardstrom will stay at UTA until June to help transition his estimable list of clients to others across the agency. This is an amicable exit, as Deadline understands it.
