I&I SlingMax Rigging Solutions - Quality | Innovation | Service | Training
I am often asked "What advantages do Slingmax? Twin-Path? High Performance Fiber Roundslings have over a competitor’s HPF Roundsling"? The simple answer is,?every?advantage! Before we review all the advantages of Twin-Path slings, lets briefly discuss Slingmax Rigging Solutions, who they are, and how Slingmax products have changed the crane and heavy lifting industries
For over 30 years, Slingmax? Rigging Solutions has designed and tested High-Performance fiber slings, multi-part wire rope slings, rigging hardware/accessories, machinery and?objective overload monitoring safety devices. The Slingmax organization consists of 37 independent companies, each exclusively licensed, trained and certified to manufacture, repair and test Slingmax? products. Slingmax currently holds over 50 Patents and 100 trademarks worldwide. In the mid 80's, Slingmax/I&I Sling, Inc. was the first lifting sling manufacturer to build synthetic roundslings with high performance core yarn. One of the first high-performance fibers to enter the market was Kevlar?. This core yarn had many beneficial properties but, also had significant ?drawbacks. Over the years the Slingmax organization worked to further improve the high-performance fibers used inside every Twin-Path sling. Today,?this focus on improving fiber technology resulted in a propriety blend of fiber called K-Spec? Core Yarn.?
Slingmax? K-Spec? Core Yarn
At the heart of every Roundsling is the load bearing core yarn. Slingmax Rigging Solutions has spent decades developing and improving its proprietary blend of HPF fibers. K-Spec? core yarn is 1/10th the weight of steel, with the same strength and elongation properties. After extensive testing, Slingmax chose to blend fibers in order to take advantage of superior fiber qualities while at the same time offsetting any weaknesses. Cycle testing has been performed on Twin-Path slings with K-Spec Core yarn and it has proven to withstand 50,000 overload cycles with negligible strength loss>https://iandisling.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Technical-Bulletin-9-Cyclic-Tension-fatigue-of-Twin-Path%C2%AE-Slings.pdf K-Spec is the strongest, longest lasting, lightest, most abrasive/chemical resistant,?and tested load bearing core yarn in the world! Among many other firsts, K-Spec was the first core yarn to gain a DNV-GL approval for offshore lifting lines in deep water deployment and recovery systems and currently is the only blended fiber to hold this approval. Slingmax continues to test raw materials produced by many different manufacturers in the United States, Europe and Asia, in order to evaluate the best materials ?for possible use. Slingmax? Covermax? Cover with Rifled Cover? Technology
What are the advantages of Twin-Path slings? All High Performance Roundslings have two things in common, (1)they have a cover and (2)HPF load bearing core yarns. Yes they are HPF Roundslings; Yes they have the same capacities. But the similarities stop here.
Through years of extensive R&D, internal and in field testing, Slingmax has engineered and proven that it's Covermax? cover is the strongest, most abrasion and UV resistant cover in the world! It's double layered, bulked nylon design has a proprietary weave that provides durable protection for the internal core yarns like no other cover on the market. In addition to its excellent burst strength and superior resistance to ultra violent radiation, the Slingmax Covermax cover includes its patented Rifled Cover? Technology. This technology helically twists the core yarn allowing for more equal load sharing of the individual core yarns, thereby maximizing the efficiency of each strand of K-Spec, which results in 17% more break strength and more consistent break test results. Because of its high quality construction, the Covermax cover can easily be repaired by any of the 46 Slingmax manufacturing dealer locations worldwide. In fact, over 90% of Twin-Path slings that have been damaged have been found to be repairable. Slingmax? Check Fast? Inspection System
A standard feature on new Twin-Path roundslings is the patented Check-Fast? inspection system, which is the only objective overload indicator for Roundslings. The Check-Fast system can determine internal load bearing core yarn degradation due to UV light, fiber-on-fiber abrasion, fatigue, and severe overload. The External Warning Indicator (EWI) is designed to instantly retract under the sling cover upon severe overload, well before ultimate sling failure, and provides criteria for a pass/ fail inspection of the sling.
The "Twin-Path" Design
The Twin-Path design provides redundant backup protection for the end user. In the event of an emergency situation where one path of the sling becomes damaged, the other path of core yarn remains uncompromised allowing for the load to be safely lowered back to the ground. This design also allows the sling to lay flat at the contact area, allowing for more surface contact and more equal sharing of the core fibers. Between the Twin-Path design & Rifled cover technology, it's unrivaled load sharing efficiency is second to none.
