The ones who listen to headphones and close themselves off to the world- at what point did my job become "Silent Disco"? I never found reason to visit a club and pay a cover charge to listen to music on a headset.

Stay home. The more nightclubs I visited the more I saw people who should have stayed home. None of which has to do with The Beatles. Trying to work through the controlled chaos that is my job I think of many topics. Most articles are rehearsed while on shift.

The output in seven years will be scrutinized forever more. Someday I shall write a Jimi Hendrix article. He had five years to make an impression. Famously, he listened to Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and opened a show with a cover two days after its release.

It's not like it was a standard or a song every musician knew. Paul McCartney was in the audience and he was amazed to hear his song so quickly. This is what happens when creativity runs wild.

Bands were not necessarily in competition with each other. They wanted to have their equivalent of other works. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was inspired by Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys.

Modern music has little creativity. Some. Not nearly enough. Bob Dylan once said there is so much great old music you really don't need new music. If it's new to you- keep seeking out different variations.

Bands like Depeche Mode and Prince released interesting music for years. Radio might play a limited selection of songs from the eighties. The story did not end there. It is important to seek something different or hear familiar songs from new perspectives.

Or you can listen to Hotel California and Bohemian Rhapsody every day forever as if The Eagles and Queen were one hit wonders. Quite the contrary. Seek out as much music as possible. You never know when a familiar song will bring about new perspectives.
