?These are the names of the twelve spies who searched the land of Canaan in obedience to the instructions of the LORD:

1. Shammua from the tribe of Reuben.
2. Shaphat from the tribe of Simeon.
3. Caleb from the tribe of Judah.
4. Igal from the tribe of Issachar.
5. Hoshea (Joseph) from the tribe of Ephraim.
6. Palti from the tribe of Benjamin.
7. Gaddiel from the tribe of Zebulin.
8. Gaddi from the tribe of Manasseh.
9. Ammiel from the tribe of Dan.
10. Sethur from the tribe of Asher.
11. Nahbi from the tribe of Naphtali.
12. Geuel from the tribe of Gad.

A Lesson From The Twelve Spies.

The Twelve Spies Were All Selected To Spy Out The Promised Land Because They Were Tribe Leaders.

Moses gave the twelve spies specific instructions to carry out. He told them to go into all the land and see what kind of a country it is. Is the soil?rich or poor? Are the towns they live in open or fortified? Are the people who dwell in it strong or weak? Is it a good or a bad country? (Numbers13:17-20 )

We have here the twelve spies who were given forty days to complete the mission. They were expected after the forty days were completed to give a report on what they saw in this land that the LORD promised them.

The twelve spies all went and observed the same things, yet only two of them returned with positive reports. The other ten were all negative and full of fear and doubts.

The ten spies started their reported?on a positive note about the overflowing of the land with milk and honey. They then changed their arguments to negative declarations. Their description of the land was that it was a dreadful place and the people who possessed it were very powerful people.

We should never allow fear and doubt to make us doubt the LORD. The ten spies sinned against God by not trusting God's vision and not having faith in the Almighty.

They sinned further by causing the entire community to murmur against Moses and spread rumors about the land.

Numbers 14:11

?And the?Lord?said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

This is a take takeaway: Ten of the twelve spies fail to contribute to their community due to their negative attitudes, unbelief and narrow perspective. They lack the courage to step out by faith, and confront the enemy.?

These ten spies saw defeat and potential failure. However, Joshua and Caleb saw possibility and potential success. They were fearless and had the courage to step out by faith and trust God for the victory.

Numbers 14:7-9 ?

?And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

?If the?Lord?delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

?Only rebel not ye against the?Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the?Lord?is with us: fear them not.

Joshua and Caleb refused to see themselves as "grasshoppers." They did not fear because they knew?the LORD would be their help, just like He was when He delivered them out of Pharaoh's hand.

The ten who saw themselves as grasshoppers up against giants, were literally setting themselves up for failure. If we want to make it in the promised land, we cannot be afraid of the giants.?

We cannot allow our enemies to make us minimize our trust and faith in our God. We know what the LORD has deliver us from, and if He had done it before, He will do it again.

Let us stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.
