1. Self-evaluate your education, experience, and skills to identify potential jobs to target during your job search.
2. Determine your compensation expectations based on extensive networking and your market research for your targeted jobs. Remember to estimate non-cash benefits.
3. Have high confidence in your negotiating skills.?If not, you must find ways to improve those skills prior to starting your job search or absolutely brush up before you have any compensation discussions.
4.?Never be the first to start a compensation discussion. Always try to defer to the hiring manager to first communicate compensation details.
5.? Never accept a verbal job offer.?Always request job offers to be in writing.
6. Always ask for time to evaluate the details of job offers prior to accepting employment.
7. Always compare job offers with your detailed employment expectations.
8.? Always be prepared to negotiate compensation and/or other employment expectations.
9.?Always exude confidence and patience when negotiating compensation and benefits.
10.? Never be overly aggressive when negotiating compensation expectations.
11. Always weight the pros and cons of a job offer. Recognize that the final agreed employment package may not completely meet your expectations.
12. Be prepared to walk away if the hiring manager will not put a verbal job offer in writing.
To conclude, wherever your job search may take you, I wish you enormous success!
