【Lansheng Technology News】Toyota Motor issued a statement saying that 12 Japanese companies, including automobile manufacturers, electrical component manufacturers and semiconductor companies, established the "Automotive Advanced SoC Research Center" (ASRA) to jointly research and develop high-performance semiconductors for automobiles.

Toyota says each car uses about 1,000 semiconductors, the type of which varies depending on the application. Among them, SoC is an indispensable semiconductor for automobile autonomous driving technology and multimedia systems, which requires the most advanced semiconductor technology to achieve advanced computing capabilities.

ASRA will pursue the high levels of safety and reliability required of cars by giving car manufacturers a central role. In addition, by bringing together the technical and experiential knowledge of electrical component and semiconductor companies, ASRA will work on the practical application of cutting-edge technologies. Specifically, ASRA plans to develop automotive SoCs using chiplet technology and combining different semiconductor types.

Companies participating in ASRA include Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Denso, Panasonic Automotive Systems, Socionext, Renesas Electronics, Synopsys Japan, Mirise Technologies, the semiconductor joint venture between Toyota and Denso, and Cadence Design Systems Japan.

ASRA aims to establish in-car chiplet technology by 2028, with SoCs installed in production cars starting in 2030.
