Is TV getting worse - the cultural shifts

In the UK we've now had almost a century of TV. As noted at https://fooddeserts.org/images/000SportArtComms.htm (scroll down to Appendix One) the show titles have changed somewhat.
We've always had soaps - but the comedy shows have declined and been replaced by more 'fly on the wall' shows. Maybe comedy relied too much on material we now, in more enlightened times, see as pejorative.
So is TV getting worse, or was it always somewhat at departure from the Reithian ideal of an 'informative' medium? BBC did run a programme on how to cope with decimal currency in 1971. You decide.....
