The Turtle on the Fence Post

The Turtle on the Fence Post

I passed this turtle by a fence on my walk this morning and it made me think of that old meme where it's a picture of a turtle sitting on the fence post and it says "If you've ever seen a turtle sitting on a fence post, he didn't get there on his own". The implication, the takeaway, is that the turtle needed help to get up on the fence post and the illustration is that you need people in your life that can help you. This morning when I saw this turtle, I was going to go up pick him up and put him on the fence post and take the picture. Then I thought it's probably breaking several federal laws because it's a protected gopher so I just left him alone. I didn't want to irritate him. And then I thought, you know, he probably wouldn't appreciate it if I picked him up and put him on the fence anyway because the turtle doesn't want to be on the fence post! So here's my question... the new takeaway should be," How many people in your life are trying to "help you" get on a fence post when you don't want to be on the fence post in the first place!" You need to surround yourself with people who are helping you in a real way to get to where you want to go... get to where your life is headed, not arbitrarily put you on the fence post. So, not all help is equal! If you're being helped onto the fence post but you don't want to be on a fence post, that wasn't helpful! Keep in mind this big gopher turtle this morning… I don't think he would have thought I was helping him by putting him on the fence post to take a picture. (Of course I would have taken him down but I want to reiterate for any law enforcement that I did not touch the turtle in any way shape or form!) Cheers! Dusty

Well stated, and glad there was no law enforcement involved! ;-)
