Turning what is, into what could be...

As a branding agency, few challenges are more intimidating than rebranding your own business. But after three years of growing our team to 20 people across Lisbon, London and Los Angeles, we knew we could do better.

In many ways, an agency’s body of work speaks for itself. It’s why so many agency brands give themselves a wordmark and then get out of the way. For others, it’s why their brand feels similar in spirit to the work they deliver for clients.

For us, neither approach felt like an option. There will always be a place in our industry for teams offering a repeatable studio style, but we’re not one of them. The diversity in our portfolio alongside our growing collection of climate-tech clients meant that we had some explaining to do.

So rather than seeking inspiration from our style of work, we decided to look inward at our process and perspective to guide the creation of our brand.

At How&How, the common denominator between our strategy, design and digital departments is a deep respect for thinking and imagination; dreaming up new and better futures. It’s why we invest so heavily in nurturing a healthy work environment, which frees our teams from the distracting anxieties and pressures that our industry is so often forced to grapple with. From our nine-day working fortnight, to pro bono environmental initiatives, to travel and education allowances, we go to great lengths to give our people the mental and physical space they need to let ideas in. It’s also why we deploy brand systems that liberate creative minds from the burdens of granular detail.

This respect for imagination, we hope, is reflected in the way our new brand comes to life visually and verbally. We are not an agency of defiance who exists to challenge the status quo with every project. We are not an agency of hustle who competes on speed of production or a trademarkable sense of grit. Nor are we an agency of tradition whose specialism lies solely in design craft. We admire a lot of agencies who fit these personas, but it’s just not us.
