Turning Vision into Reality: Latrobe Magnesium's Journey to Metal Production Milestone
Latrobe Magnesium has reached a significant milestone by completing the construction and commissioning of its first-phase Demonstration Plant, showcasing the inaugural production of Magnesium Oxide derived from Fly Ash. This achievement signifies a breakthrough in advancing sustainable magnesium extraction through our patented hydromet process, marking a pioneering endeavour in the industry. It stands as a testament to our dedication to innovation and sustainable magnesium production.
As the project successfully yields magnesium oxide as an intermediate product, paving the way for magnesium metal production, Stage 1 construction progresses with the installation and commissioning of additional equipment essential for magnesium metal and SCM production. This forward momentum underscores our commitment to utilising industry-proven thermal reduction processes, driving us closer to our goal of sustainable magnesium metal production.
Here are some significant milestones achieved along the journey:
The Origin Energy team successfully completed the above ground piping, including supports and condenser traps, along the outside and inside of the fabrication sheds to the Spray Roaster, Steam Boiler and Reduction Furnace. This system was commissioned after receiving ESV approval.
Structural, mechanical and piping installation for the Spray Roaster area was completed.?Mechanical, electrical and piping items, such as tanks, burners, stacks, pumps, fans, blowers, major piping, cabling, instrumentation and transmitters etc. were successfully commissioned by the Tenova supervisors on site.
