Turning points that give hope (Week 1, Reflection 6)

Hope is an Advent theme because we are heading towards the solstice. The movement towards the solstice means longer nights or days (depending on your hemisphere) and harsher weather. Darkness and cold prevent food from growing in the northern hemisphere. Heat, fire, and storm destroy food and property in the southern.

?

The approaching solstice is a turning point of hope. The solstice means this trend towards harsher weather will end. More temperate conditions will arrive. But there is a catch. The worst of winter or summer arrives after the solstice. The promise of a better future does not mean instant relief. It means, "Hold on, we can get through it."

?

Recognising turning points in a work cycle is important, even when there is still a lot of hard work ahead. It matters that the team knows it has passed the critical point and that positive outcomes are achievable. The intense period will end. We can remind each other of this and give support to keep going.
