A turning point for VC investment in Europe?
First things first — it is our pleasure to announce that from next week the critically acclaimed Letter from Boris is back!
If you’ve been a subscriber of this newsletter long enough (that is, for about a year), you’ll remember the regular column of our co-founder Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten full of tech-adjacent musings and lessons. From next week on, we’ll start sending out the column again as a second weekly instalment of this newsletter for your reading pleasure. The first one will land in your inbox on Monday — keep your eyes open!
Now, let’s talk about the European technology ecosystem (as if we’re not talking about it every day anyway). Things seem to be getting a bit better when it comes to VC investments in the region — that’s according to Dealroom’s latest numbers for Q1.
With $13.7bn raised by startups in the first three months of 2024, the industry showed a 5% growth year-on-year, which is no mean feat in the current market reality. Even more interestingly, thanks to several big rounds in Q1, Amsterdam ended up in third place among European cities based on the amount of funding raised by startups.
All in all, this latest snapshot may be an indication that the industry has entered into a period of sustainable growth — with energy, healthtech, and fintech as the leading verticals.
Join our senior editor Linnea Ahlgren who dove into the numbers to uncover more. ??
