Turn Your Business Team Into A High Performing Machine

Turn Your Business Team Into A High Performing Machine

Results, income, revenue, profits, spreadsheets, and so many charts… The list goes on and on. The business world is moving at an astonishing speed and it is no surprise you need to catch your breath from time to time. Who wouldn’t?

But while you might be slowing down, others are speeding up, and you can’t let that happen. If you really want your business team to succeed, where do you even begin? Well, we have an idea. It is actually quite simple.

Start with your people.

The fact that people are the most important asset of a company is now a well-known fact. But just because you are aware of it, it doesn’t mean you are actually living by it. In fact, most companies don’t, and this should matter to you. Because by focusing on your people and the relationship between them, you can surpass your competition.

Regardless of your industry, chances are your employees are divided into teams. No one has the luxury of working alone anymore. Instead of worrying about the negative outcomes of interpersonal conflicts focus on turning them into a well-oiled machine. There is no bigger competitive edge than having a strong team that works well together. And here is how you can achieve it.

Lead by example in everything you do

If a company lives and dies by its people, then teams live and die by the leaders. If you aim to take them higher, you can’t lower your performance, attitude and overall behavior. They will replicate what they see much more than what you are saying to them.

Make sure that you are consistent in everything you promise and that you are fair when it comes to delegating, rewarding and promoting. If they feel like they can trust you, you will have a very solid foundation to create a strong and powerful team that will drive your business forward.

Give them a place to express themselves

The best way to lead and to get the most out of your employees is to let them shine. Everyone has something they are or potentially could be, exceptional at. If you are always micromanaging them, keeping track of every little idea, and controlling all of the decisions, they will never have a chance to grow.

You can’t possibly do everything yourself, so in order to achieve the best possible results give them space to make their own mistakes and become a better team because of it. In addition to this, if everyone is responsible for one part of the process that will give them a chance to improve their cooperation and communication. In the long run, that will help drive results through the roof.

Make sure they are bonding with each other — even after office hours

To be quite honest, there are many reasons why you shouldn’t hire family members. In many cases, the same goes for spouses or even close friends. Starting a business with someone you have known since kindergarten can be quite difficult.

But, on the opposite end of that spectrum is a business team comprised solely of strangers. They have no relationship, no sense of loyalty and nothing that connects them. And that can be fatal for the business.

At least some sort of friendly relationship needs to exist in order for a team to achieve great results. Connections between them will create a general sense of ownership of the tasks, reduce conflicts and gossip and increase their general sense of belonging to the group.

In order to achieve that, you should organize tasks that promote cooperation between employees, encourage their efforts to work together and allow them space to connect that isn’t related to business.

Keep track of everything and reward your team accordingly

There is nothing worse than feeling like your efforts aren’t appreciated. Sometimes just a pad on the back is enough, and an actual incentive also wouldn’t go unnoticed. But what happens when there is no recognition? Or worse, when rewards seem random, with no merit behind it?

There is nothing worse you can do for your team than create inequality when it comes to performance management and the consequences that it entails. Not only it will diminish you as a lead but it will also create friction and conflict amongst your team members. Instead of working towards a common goal they will feel envy and resentment. There is no way they will perform like a team in that environment.

On the other hand, if you invest resources into creating a culture that encourages and rewards individual contribution and team efforts, you won’t have to invest in anything else. The team will do the job for you.
