Welcome back to The Measure Monthly.
This month, we’re bringing you a Dark January special – packed with highlights from our campaign content.
Turn your bloody lights off ??
Two years ago, we kicked off our Dark January campaign to spotlight a huge issue: wasted energy in empty offices.
Every night, office lights stay on, HVAC systems run, and spaces sit empty. And this adds up – with a massive 30% of energy used in commercial buildings going to waste.?
It’s shocking, but preventable. That’s why we brought back our #TurnYourBloodyLightsOff movement this month to encourage everyone to switch off, speak up and lead change.
As always, there’s been plenty of great questions, discussions, and feedback. We’ve created new content based on that, which you can check out below.
Why should I care about Dark January? ??
In the first Ask Sami of the year, Sami Mustapha explained what Dark January is all about and how small actions, when done consistently, can lead to meaningful change.

What about street safety? ??
We received lots of valid feedback with suggestions for why lights are left on – including street safety, cleaning schedules, and deterring criminals – which we addressed in a post answering your most common questions.
Shouldn’t it be #TurnYourBloodyHVACOff? ??
James Palmer , our Head of Energy and Building Sustainability, filmed a video focusing on all things HVAC – covering the inefficiencies we see in buildings and how the Metrikus platform helps companies fix these issues.
Goodbye Dark January ??
It's nearly the end of January, but we won’t stop banging on about energy waste in commercial buildings.?
