Turn The Other Cheek?

I just read a Substack (blog) written by David Poland who expounds on the state of film, and in a recent posting on Palestine and Israel’s reaction to Hamas. Poland, like many in the film biz is Jewish. I’m not. I only point that out as I’m sympathetic and empathetic with Jews as a segment of our world as I am with Native American’s and other groups who’ve been subjugated as the world has marched on. Poland is a very smart guy yet uses the term “humanity” in an all-inclusive manner and one that presumes humanity is, or at least should be, soaked with the Biblical “…do unto others.” It’s also human to defend yourself, and yes to enjoy retribution.

It has long astounded me that Jews, to a large extent in America, have and continue to “turn the other cheek.” Now, as seems common in the US, folks, among them many Jews, cry out with indignation as Palestinians pay for the killing of hundreds of Jews with the death of thousands of their own.

Should a two-year-old die a violent death? Of course not. Not a two-year-old Jew or Palestinian. I’d be shocked to learn that even one two-year-old Palestinian child died purposefully at the hand of any Israeli. I am not shocked to learn a two-year-old Jewish child was targeted by a Hamas invader. And there’s the crux of the whole conflict.

All the above in the following context. Hitler built Germany’s first concentration camp in 1933, and Jews and the rest of the world should have seen the proverbial writing on the wall. He was elected by the people even if only 10% of German’s were Nazi’s. Only a small percentage of Palestinians are Hamas. Had German’s arisen and tossed the Nazi’s out six million Jews and countless others wouldn’t have died, and German’s wouldn’t have suffered the aftermath of losing a World War. Had Palestinians arisen, unlike Poland’s version of humanity, or merely not have ELECTED Hama’s to govern them, thousands wouldn’t be dying now, including that two-year-old caught in his parent’s, countrymen’s, mistake.

Jews should continue to move against those who would wipe them off the earth, no matter how many apologists there are in their own country or in distant lands. Not only for their own existence, but for the benefit of you, me, and my children and grandchildren…and so the world doesn’t find itself in another worldwide conflict. When one despot wins, others are encouraged.
