It’s difficult, if not impossible, to be fully present and give full attention to what is happening now in your life if you are under the influence of any drug, particularly alcohol.
An old Zen saying suggests, ‘You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes every day – unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.’
We all have thousands and thousands of thoughts racing through our minds every day (over 50,000 according to the science). Many of these are worries about the future or past. We are not present.
These thoughts are like thousands of TV channels, which we flick between never finding one we’re happy with.
One day, by chance, I found out about the Discovery Channel.
Many of us have never switched this channel on and some of us don’t even know it exists.
For me the Discovery Channel is a great place to meditate and find the space between my thoughts. Once you’re on the Discovery Channel you can look at yourself, what you value, what you believe in, what beliefs are holding you back, what your purpose or mission is in life. I now tune in to it every day.
