TURMERIC AN OLD SPICE WHICH MAY HELP BRAIN FUNCTION AND STROKE RECOVERY
A bioactive compound found in turmeric promotes stem cell proliferation and differentiation in the brain, research published in the journal Stem Cell Research & Therapy suggested aromatic turmerone could be a future drug candidate for treating neurological disorders, such as stroke and Alzheimer's disease.
This bioactive compound Ar-turmerone, is the lesser-studied of two major bioactive compounds found in turmeric. The other compound which has been extensively studies is curcumin, which is well known for its anti-inflammatory and the ability to protect nerve cells against damage, degeneration, or impairment of function properties.
Curcumin post-treatment of a stroke was found to reduce ischemic stroke-induced brain damage and improves functional outcomes, providing new evidence that curcumin might be a promising therapeutic strategy for stroke
Activated turmeric containing Ar-turmerone and curcumin may play an important role in self-repair and recovery of brain function after a stroke and in other neurodegenerative diseases.
IMPORTANT
If you have any symptoms of a stroke call 000 now and seek urgent medical treatment. Taking turmeric will not replace early medical intervention.
