A few days have passed since our return, and we're still raving about the breathtaking landscapes of Eastern Anatolia. This year's TEN cultural trip took us on an unforgettable journey through this magical region of Turkey, with stops in the enchanting cities of Van, Midyat, and Mardin.
Our adventure began in Erzurum, where a warm and welcoming atmosphere greeted us. The group, a mix of familiar faces and new acquaintances, eagerly embarked on getting to know each other. As we gathered first impressions and prepared for the exciting adventure ahead, a strong sense of camaraderie emerged, setting the stage for an exceptional experience.
Van: A City Steeped in History and Natural Wonders
Our first stop was Van, a city steeped in history and natural wonders. We were captivated by the stunning beauty of Lake Van, the largest soda lake in the world, and its mesmerizing islands. The ancient Van Fortress, perched atop a hill overlooking the city, offered breathtaking views and a glimpse into the region's rich past.
Midyat: A Cultural Mosaic of Traditions and Craftsmanship
From Van, we ventured to Midyat, a charming town renowned for its cultural tapestry and exquisite craftsmanship. We wandered through the labyrinthine streets of the old town, admiring the intricate silverwork, the vibrant textiles, and the delectable culinary delights that showcased the town's unique heritage.
Mardin: A UNESCO World Heritage Site Enchanting with Its Ancient Charm
Our journey culminated in Mardin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that enchanted us with its ancient charm and breathtaking architecture. We strolled through the narrow alleyways lined with honey-colored stone houses, each adorned with intricate carvings and arches. The city's rooftop cafes provided panoramic views that left us speechless.
