A few weeks ago, Dr. Ozlem Ergun Ulueren, Turkish Ambassador to Ghana for the last four years, brought her sterling service in Ghana to a successful end.
The last four years have been incredibly exciting but also challenging for the Ghana-Turkey economic relationship.
Both countries had to battle the incredibly difficult effects of COVID and its long-term economic effects. That notwithstanding, in 2020, the mutual trade between the two countries hit its highest peak, at $771 million.
The devastating recent earthquake in Turkiye and the loss of thousands of lives, including our beloved Christian Atsu, have been particularly difficult.
?In all this, the resilience and determination of Ambassador Ulueren to do everything she could to grow the Turkiye-Ghana political and economic relationship never wavered.
I had the pleasure to interview Ambassador Ulueren a number of times during her term in Ghana. In the last days of her time in office, I had the opportunity to once again pick her brain about her time here in Ghana.
In a wide-ranging interview, I inquired about her biggest triumphs as Ambassador, what she thinks we must do as a country to deepen our economic relationship with Turkiye and the key areas she thinks have the most economic leverage for both countries to pursue.
Kindly read all her responses here:
Thanks for your attention.
Cheers,
