Tuning Is Critical
Transactions move through a mainframe computer just like cars move along a highway. Some are large and some are small. Some are fast and some are slow.
At rush hour the volume of cars (transactions) increases (peak load). You have important things to do and you need to go faster. Getting a faster car won't help at all (performance tuning your Critical Applications). They have been tuned as well as possible already. You have to speed up the slow cars in front of you that are in your way. They are old, non-tuned and run slowly. Did you ever get behind a school bus when you had an important appointment? If you want your most important applications to run faster you have to get your little unimportant files to move faster and get out of the way.
Good show, Robert !
