PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: XL DADO & SKIRTING TRUNKING
The XL range is a large three-compartment trunking system compliant up to Cat 7a.
Both XL dado and skirting bases are manufactured using 99% recycled material. They are fitted with individual tamper-proof compartment lids for safety and ease of access.
XL dado trunking was used at the University of Central Lancashire's New Innovation Centre.
The room was designed to be used for a range of engineering courses, including aerospace, mechanical and robotics, meaning they required a cable management solution that would not only achieve a sleek, professional finish, but also be durable and large enough to house their chosen data cables.
MEET THE TEAM ????
This month we spoke to Martin Russell who is our Group Product Manager! Martin works with the Sales team and customers on existing product applications and also internally with the technical, design and engineering teams on new product development.
Martin is also pretty competitive and isn’t shy at taking on a challenge! In fact the Russell v Roberts has become quite a thing where Martin and Barry Roberts , our National Specification Manager compete against each other. It all started off with the eFIXX electrician’s challenge wall where Martin beat seasoned electrical engineer Barry hands down! Games of golf and darts followed, and Martin is 3 – 0 up. Come on Barry! Let us know who you're supporting in the comments. ??

What was your first ever job, and how old were you? ??
My first full time job was when I was 16, having just left school. I worked for a company called Crompton Instruments in Witham, Essex, building PCBs for protection relays used in the electrical switchgear industry. The following year I joined the apprenticeship program, and I did day release at Colchester Institute for 6-7 years until I got my degree in Electronic Engineering. I worked there for over 20 years in a number of roles covering Engineering, Design, Sales and Product Management. The company is still going and I meet up with my friends there every year just before Christmas to catch-up.
What’s your favourite part of working at Marshall-Tufflex? ??
Firstly, I know it’s a cliché, but it’s the people. We have great people within the business, no egos, and everyone just wants to get stuck in and get the job done and we try to have fun while we’re doing it. It’s a good company to work for.
Secondly, we know what we are and what we want to be. We’re cable management specialists, nothing else. We don’t try to do anything else like Lighting or Wiring Devices, if it's not a Cable Management solution then we’re not going to do it.
Early bird or night owl? ??
Always been a bit of a night owl. Used to do a lot of clubbing when I was younger, I don’t do that now but I still like to stay up late, especially at weekends.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work? ??
Just normal things really. I try to stay in shape by playing 5-a-side football every week and cycling at the weekends if the weather's nice enough. Beyond that I like spending time with friends and family, maybe going out for a bite to eat, a drink and a good laugh.
If you were forced to sing karaoke, what song would you choose? ??
No one needs to hear me sing, I’ve got a shocking singing voice. But on the rare occasion I’ve taken the microphone at Karaoke then “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol is my go-to.
What’s the best trip / holiday you’ve ever been on? ??
I’m very lucky, I’ve travelled a lot for work over the years. I’ve been to the Great Wall in China and have also been lucky enough to visit Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore to name a few. But my favourite was probably taking my girls to Disney in Florida when they were young. Seeing them with Mickey Mouse and in Hogwarts was special.
Many thanks Martin for being part of this month's #MeetTheTeam!
