Make sure you know what your Gift is

Today, I’m going to show you how to confidently reveal what your unique Gift is.

Many people are held back because they don’t capitalize on the thing they are uniquely good at.?

If you find that you are not flowing when doing your work, if you’re having to slog through the things you do, it's probably because you aren't utilizing your most innate Gift.

Tragically, most people fail to recognize what they are truly gifted at, or how they are uniquely suited to serve.

Why?

They don’t have a proven and actionable process to effectively uncover their Gift.

You Don’t “Find” Your Gift, It isn't Lost. You Uncover It

But revealing your gift requires effort.?

You have to be willing to introspect and look below the surface because oftentimes your Gift will be one level deeper than you think.

In doing so, you will:

• Stop wasting time doing things that don't align with your Gift
• Understand and accept past successes AND failures
• Stop second-guessing your path forward
• Live more purposefully

I’m going to show you how to actually go about uncovering what your gift truly is.

Option 1: Do it Yourself

There are many ways to approach doing it yourself. I’ve tried all of these myself on my voyage to figure out my unique gift and purpose in life.

Strengthsfinder

When I first took a job at Rackspace I was introduced to Strengthsfinder.

- This is an online test you can take that rates your aptitude across 34 different “Themes” that are organized within 4 fundamental domains:

Execution, Influence, Relationship Building and Strategic Thinking.

I found it so liberating to focus on the things that I was good at versus being obsessed with areas where I sucked!

Personality Tests

Beyond Strengthsfinder there is no shortage of personality tests available online: Myers-Briggs, The Big 5, DISC, Enneagram, etc...

Completing these assessments can help you understand who you are and tap into your unique abilities.

Unfortunately all of these ultimately put you in a box…

Which can be quite disempowering.

Each assessment works independently and segments people differently, so make sure to understand the scope of the assessment you choose to take (and take the results with a pinch of salt!)

Personally I found Myers-Briggs to be particularly judgemental whereas Ennegram inspired a deeper more curious exploration. [close loops vs open loops]

Ask For Feedback

Beyond formal tests, asking your friends, family and coworkers what they think is your superpower can be a great way of getting a handle on what your Gift is.?

The people that have worked and been around you the most will have observed things about you that you may have taken for granted! They see your innate genius and how you bring value to those you interact with.?

When aiming to ascertain the truth about yourself, external validation can prove invaluable.

Start With Why

The “Start With Why” framework developed by Simon Sinek aims to put the “Why” of working before the “How” or “What”.

Through that process, you develop a “Why Statement” that acts as a core guiding principle on why one does what one does.

This works best with the help of a friend. Someone you can discuss your thoughts with, bounce ideas off of, and get feedback from an outside source that you trust.?

I remember going through this with a friend of mine after I learned of this method. We spent about 4 hours talking and afterwards it took me a few weeks of refining? to actually start formalizing and internalizing my “why”

Since none of these approaches are specifically geared towards finding your unique Gift, it could be good to mix and match all the approaches.?

Try and put the puzzle pieces together and consciously think about their results in the context of what your Gift can be.

I tried all of the above and got pretty close to understanding my gift but I still found myself second-guessing.?

Fortunately there is a better way…

Option 2: Core Gift Discovery Interview
