ATHLETICS: The Diamond League Athletissima meet in Lausanne saw two world-leading marks, an American women’s 3,000 m record from Elise Cranny, and a redemption win for World Champion Chase Jackson of the U.S. in the women’s shot. The top performance was a sensational 1:41.11 men’s 800 m win for Kenyan Olympic champ Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the equal-fourth-fastest ever, but there was a lot more.

ATHLETICS: World Athletics approved a package of doping sanctions against Bahrain by the Athletics Integrity Unit, suspending the country from major events for a year, limiting its World Championships entries and imposing $7.3 million in costs for a national anti-doping unit (now active) and a talent academy so the country stops relying on getting transfers from other nations to run for it. Pretty serious.

FOOTBALL: Architects unveiled some detailed renderings of the massive, 115,000-person football stadium to be built about 30 miles outside of Casablanca for the FIFA World Cup in 2030. Everything is enormous, with the most seating of any football stadium in the world, surrounded by gardens and level upon level of luxury seating. And the entire structure is shaded by an aluminum version of a giant tent (pictured above, courtesy Populous).
