Los Angeles 2028: The Los Angeles City Council is worried over the number of visitors coming for the Olympic Games, asking City staff to come up with a plan to “mitigate impacts associated with tourism.”

Athletics: The sports minister for Kenya endorsed a bid for the 2029 World Athletics Championships, and said funding must be found to support the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya.

Badminton: Five different countries won classes at the BWF World Tour Korea Masters.

Beach Volleyball: The last Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 tournament of the season saw upset men’s winners from England, and a second win for Brazil’s women’s stars Carol and Barbara, over Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft of the U.S.?

Canoeing: The International Canoe Federation re-elected President Thomas Konietzko of Germany, running unopposed, by 87-1.?

Curling: Canada’s Rachel Homan defended her 2023 win at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open, as did Bruce Mouat of Scotland in the men’s division.?

Fencing: The FIE World Cup circuit got underway with tournaments in three countries, with individual wins for fencers from France, Korea, Hungary and Italy.?

Figure Skating: Round four of the ISU Grand Prix in Tokyo, for the NHK Trophy, with Japan taking the men’s (Yuma Kagiyama) and women’s (Kaori Sakamoto) golds. The American Ice Dance duo of World Champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates also won convincingly.

Ice Hockey: Canada’s women national team won two games in the Rivalry Series with the U.S., getting a 5-4 shoot-out victory on Friday in Utah and then cruising past the Americans, 4-1, in Boise, Idaho on Sunday.?

Luge: Olympians Tucker West and Ashley Farquharson took the men’s and women’s Singles honors at the USA Luge National Championships. Defending women’s Doubles champs Forgan and Kirkby won again, but the men’s Doubles was an upset win for emerging stars Mueller and Haugsjaa.

Rowing: The World Rowing Awards went to the men’s Quadruple Sculls from the Netherlands, and the women’s Romanian Eight, both Olympic champs in Paris.?

Sailing: China’s Quanhai Li won re-election as President of World Sailing in a contest with two challengers.?

Table Tennis: China swept both the men’s (Shidong Lin) and women’s (Manyu Wang) classes at the WTT Champions in Frankfurt, Germany.?

Triathlon: One more win for Rio 2016 Olympic women’s champ Gwen Jorgensen?of the U.S., who came from behind to win the World Triathlon Cup in Miyazaki, Japan, at the tape.?
