● Los Angeles 2028: LA28 Chair Casey Wasserman said that the organizing committee is looking for an Olympic cricket venue on the East Coast of the U.S., for a better time zone for viewers in India.

● Alpine Skiing: The organizers of next week’s FIS Alpine World Cup opener in Austria say that American star Lindsey Vonn?(pictured above; photo courtesy U.S. Ski & Snowboard) will be racing in the women’s Giant Slalom.?

● Archery: The World Archery World Cup Final saw Korean Woo-jin Kim finish off a dream season – three Olympic golds – with a win in the men’s tournament.?

● Athletics: Ethiopia swept the titles at the Amsterdam Marathon, with Yalemzerf Yehualaw, the 2022 London Marathon winner, winning the women’s race by more than two minutes in 2:16:52.

● Badminton: China won three titles at the Denmark Open in Odense, but the local fans cheered the men’s Singles win by Anders Antonsen.?

● Beach Volleyball: Tokyo Olympic champs and Paris bronze medalists Anders Mol and Christian Sorum of Norway won their third tournament of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour season in Brazil, beating Qatar stars Cherif and Ahmed in three tight sets.?

● Cricket: New Zealand won its first title in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, defeating South Africa in the final by 32 runs.?

● Curling: Sweden defended its 2023 title, with an entirely new team, at the World Curling Mixed Team Championship in Scotland.?

● Cycling: A busy 121st UCI World Track Championships concluded in Denmark, with Dutch sprint star Harrie Lavreysen winning three events; he now has 16 career Worlds golds! The U.S. won three medals (0-2-1).?

? The 2024 UCI World Tour concluded with the six-stage Gree-Tour of Guangxi in China and a win for Belgium’s Lennart van Eeveldt, the big winner of stage five.

? The 2024 UCI Women’s World Tour finished with two races in China, won by Poland’s Marta Lach and then Spain’s Sandra Alonso.?

? At the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup Park event in Shanghai, China, Japan’s 2022 Worlds gold medalist Rim Nakamura was the winner, with American Nick Bruce third. China’s Sibei Sun won the women’s final.?

? Chris Hoy, 48, Britain’s six-time Olympic gold medalist in track cycling, revealed that he has terminal prostate cancer and was told he has 2-4 years left.?

● Figure Skating: World Champion Ilia Malinin barely escaped with a third straight men’s Singles title at Skate America, over France’s Kevin Aymoz, who set personal bests to win the Free Skate. But Malinin was a close winner. Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson upset U.S. stars (and World Champions) Madison Chock and Evan Bates; Japan’s Wakaba Higuchi won the women’s Singles and teammates Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara won the Pairs.?

● Football: Defending champion Spain is 2-0 at the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup, being played in the Dominican Republic. The U.S. is 1-1 and in position to advance, depending on their last pool match.?

● Freestyle Skiing & Snowboard: The FIS World Cup seasons in Big Air started in Chur, Switzerland, with Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa and Mari Fukada winning in Freestyle and Matej Svancer of Austria and Swiss Mathilde Gremaud winning in Snowboard.?

? One-time Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding is wanted by the U.S. Justice Department for running a major drug ring and for at least three murders. He was already convicted of drug running, in 2010.?

● Triathlon: Britain’s Paris Olympic champ, Alex Yee, won the seasonal World Triathlon Championship Series title in Spain, while New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde won the final race on Sunday. France’s Cassandre Beaugrand, the Olympic gold medalist, won her first World title by also winning her race.?

● Water Polo: The Aquatics Integrity Unit has suspended the Italian men’s national team for six months for verbal abuse and physical actions at the Paris 2024 Olympic quarterfinals and the follow-up classification game. This will keep Italy out of the 2025 World Cup, but not the 2025 World Championships.?
