French Alps 2030: More candidates jockeying to lead the in-formation organizing committee in France, but still no decision. Olympic Freestyle skiing gold medalist Edgar Grospiron has emerged as a serious contender.?

Salt Lake City 2034: In contrast, the organizing committee leadership for the 2034 Winter Games in Salt Lake City will be named Friday in a ceremony in the State Capitol building.

NCAA: The U.S. Department of Education, now controlled by the Trump Administration, repudiated the “guidance” from the Biden Administration that declared Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments applies to payments to college athletes under the proposed settlement of the House vs. NCAA lawsuit, which may be approved in April. This issue is certain to end up in court.?

Alpine Skiing: Swiss dominance at the World Alpine Championships in Austria, with three Swiss teams sweeping the medals in the men’s Team Combined, with the U.S. fourth. Swiss skiers have now won all three men’s events held so far.?

Athletics: USA Track & Field now includes governance of Para Athletics, and the 2025 national Para championships will be integrated – for the first time ever – with the USATF Nationals at Hayward Field (pictured above) in Eugene, Oregon from 31 July to 2 August.?

? The trial of Gjert Ingebrigtsen (NOR), father of the famed running Ingebrigtsen brothers, will stand trial in open court next month for abuse, with all seven of his children expected to testify. A media circus is expected.?

? USATF told athletes and coaches during a Monday webinar that four athletes each in the men’s and women’s vault and shot will receive direct-to-finals pass-throughs at the USATF Nationals as an experiment in supporting the top athletes in the country in these events.?

Biathlon: The IBU World Championships began in Switzerland, with France repeating as gold medalists in the 4 x 6 km Mixed Relay, by more than a minute.?

Football: The coach of the Spanish champions of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup told a Madrid court he did not directly pressure midfielder Jenni Hermoso to make a statement to tamp down the frenzy over the kiss by federation chief Luis Rubiales, but wanted to calm the situation. The prosecution began its closing arguments.?

Gymnastics: The Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) posted notices about changes to the Code of Points for 2025-28. There were minor changes to the women’s rules, but the men’s Code reduced the number of elements to be included in a routine to develop the degree of difficulty from 10 to eight. This is to encourage more spectacular moves!

Table Tennis: World Table Tennis announced a relaxation of the must-play rules for the WTT Champions and “Smash” series after the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalists in men’s and women’s Singles – both from China – retired over the workload. The new requirements allow for as few as four appearances a year, compared to 10 previously. And Olympic gold medalists get automatic entry into all of these tournaments until the next Games! ?
