The inauguration ceremony took place on July 12th at the East Hall.?
Yong Guo, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the University and chairman of the Cyrus Tang Student Global Development Center, and Patrick Liang, executive director of the Cyrus Tang Foundation, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.?
Scott Rozelle, co-director of the Center for Chinese Economic and Institutional Studies at Stanford University and director of the center, and Yuan Wei, secretary general of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation, attended the ceremony. Zhao Cen, director of the Student Affairs Office and director of the center, presided over the ceremony.
On behalf of 清华大学 , Yong Guo expressed his sincere gratitude to Cyrus Tang and the Cyrus Tang Foundation for their long-term support and great care for Tsinghua University. He said that in the face of the profound changes in the world pattern, the Cyrus Tang Student Global Development Center carries the mission of contributing to the development of Chinese youth and shoulders the important tasks of cultivating international talents and implementing the school's global strategy.?
The Center will focus on cultivating more young talents who are willing to participate in and lead global affairs, and make new practices for building a community with a shared future for mankind. It is hoped that the center will continue to strengthen external exchanges and cooperation, enrich talent training programs, expand the number of student participants, and promote the innovative development of various undertakings at a deeper level.
Patrick Liang said that the Cyrus Tang Foundation and 清华大学 have had many years of educational cooperation and deep friendship, and have jointly cultivated a large number of outstanding talents. He recalled that the establishment of the Cyrus Tang Student Global Development Center was the last major decision made by Cyrus Tang when he was alive.?
Cyrus Tang always focused on finding and cultivating people who can care for and inspire others, have a long-term vision and actively seek opportunities. The purpose and educational goals of the center are in line with his life philosophy. Patrick Liang hopes that with the efforts of the center, more and more young leaders with both ability and character will emerge from Tsinghua, who can enhance cross-cultural understanding and strengthen global cooperation in a complex and changing world.
Ying Liao, Executive Deputy Director of the Center, focused on the development and progress of the Center, and specifically introduced how the Center will support Tsinghua students to further strengthen international exchanges and cooperation and carry out global development practices by joining international organizations.?

Tan Chen, a 2021 master's student from the School of Law, spoke on behalf of the students of Cyrus Tang Global Development "High Flying" Program, and shared his experience and learnings from his internship at the United Nations International Organization.
At the meeting, all the directors of the Tsinghua University Cyrus Tang Student Global Development Center presented the Center, and Guo Yong issued a letter of appointment to the center's international organization mentor.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Tsinghua University Education Foundation, Institute for Global Co-development, Cyrus Tang Student Global Development Center, as well as Cyrus Tang Foundation team members and experts from international organizations.
After the presentation ceremony, the Tsinghua University Global Development Talent Training Seminar, hosted by the Center, started. In-depth discussions took place on the two major topics - “Opportunities and Challenges of China’s Participation in Global Governance” and “Talent Training for Global Development and International Organizations: Goals, Paths and Resources”.
At the seminar, experts from international organizations such as the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Office for Project Services, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations World Food Program, and the International Labour Organization shared their experiences and thoughts on participating in global governance, and provided valuable suggestions for the training of global development talents.
