TSA Agent Under Fire for Inhumane Treatment of K9 Teammate

After video of him aggressively pulling his dog at Detroit Metro Airport went viral, TSA responded by withdrawing their canine handler from handling duties and scheduling an exam for their animal.

Recent X-ray screenings at U.S. airports have yielded some unexpected discoveries, including a young dolphin skull found at Detroit Metro Airport.

Video Goes Viral

Michigan TSA Dog Handler in Hot Water After Video Goes Viral A TSA dog handler from Michigan has come under scrutiny after video surfaced of him mistreating canine partner. We hope he is just an isolated incident and do not represent how most TSA workers treat their canines.

ProfessionalEye3568 uploaded footage to Reddit's r/Delta community by user ProfessionalEye3568 that showed an agent walking his bomb-sniffing canine around Detroit Metro Airport. At certain turns, he aggressively pulled at its leash, prompting outraged commenters who claimed this treatment could easily have resulted in injury to both himself and the dog.

Others pointed out that even during training exercises, it should not be permitted for handlers to treat animals so roughly. TSA responded to criticism by promising an investigation and providing the dog with a wellness exam.

TSA also stated in their statement that an employee was suspended pending an investigation of his actions towards canines, noting the animal was unharmed during this encounter and all allegations of misconduct are taken seriously. They asked members of the public to assist them in monitoring employee conduct towards animals with respect. Furthermore, review of policies and training programs would ensure best practices were being met; given this video was only uploaded recently it might take some time until investigation results are complete; yet its reaction showed just how quickly and strongly people can become outraged over content shared online.

Agent Removed From Duties

Detroit Metro Airport TSA handler has been removed after video of him aggressively pulling his bomb-sniffing dog went viral. The clip first surfaced on Sunday on ProfessionalEye3568's Reddit thread r/Delta subreddit, posted by User ProfessionalEye3568 and showing an unidentified official pulling their German Shorthair Pointer repeatedly back and forth across terminal as passengers passed by, until its back legs started shaking from being jostled around to such an extent that even its hind legs would jerk around until even its jaws could no longer remain stable enough. Hard to watch!

Video footage quickly went viral, prompting outrage and calls to remove the agent from his duties. Within 24 hours of this clip surfacing, TSA confirmed to WXYZ that he has been suspended pending investigation; furthermore, their dog will also undergo wellness exams as per TSA policy.

TSA announced today that one of their handlers "will be removed from his canine handling duties while this matter is investigated," without providing further information or comment. TSA has previously stressed how important animal welfare and safety are, with officers receiving extensive training on how to work effectively with K9 colleagues; those involved with explosive detection work also undergo background checks before being allowed access.

TSA Says It’s Investigating

Transportation Security Administration officials have initiated an investigation of a canine handler after video footage went viral showing their bomb-sniffing dog being aggressively pulled on its leash at Detroit Metro Airport by its handler, seen walking back and forth dragging him by its collar each time he turns. This is not an isolated incident either - according to TSA rules it violates their regulations in several ways.

TSA conducts approximately 28,000 inspections each year to detect and correct aviation security deficiencies at airports and passenger air carriers, such as airports with restricted security access or passenger airlines that violate aviation security requirements. When they find violations, enforcement actions range from counseling to civil penalties. GAO reviewed TSA's inspection processes as well as conducting interviews and surveys with inspectors from five field offices responsible for selecting airports and large passenger airlines for inspection. Inspectors in these field offices reported flaws in a new data platform used to record their work - such as editing key fields- was hindering their efforts at ensuring compliance with required aviation security programs.

TSA officials stated they have received and reviewed the video footage in question, adding that any individual seen in it has been taken off duty until further investigations have concluded.

Melvin Carraway was moved after an internal investigation identified security failures at numerous airports nationwide. Following this decision, he will now coordinate with local law enforcement agencies through a Department of Homeland Security program - something different than his prior role leading one of America's premier airline security organizations.

An ex-TSA worker has been charged with hacking and leaking sensitive passenger data, such as names and birth dates from a database used for processing boarding passes. She claims she did it to show weaknesses in airport security systems that could allow hackers to smuggle weapons or fake explosives onto planes.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), part of the Department of Homeland Security, is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. government responsible for uncovering transnational criminal organizations exploiting global infrastructure through which international trade, travel and finance happen. With investigators located throughout both domestic and international posts worldwide, HSI comprises more than 245 investigators in total.

Cherenzia’s Story

After video footage surfaced showing him aggressively pulling his bomb-sniffing dog at Detroit Metro Airport's McNamara Terminal on Sunday morning, one TSA agent has been suspended pending investigation for pulling its handler's German Shorthaired Pointer around by its neck, making U-turns and retracing steps while pulling.

Many viewers of the video have been infuriated and appalled, calling for its handler to be fired immediately. Others have voiced concern for both passengers' safety and that of the dog; several individuals have reported the behavior to both TSA and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The TSA issued a statement Monday evening expressing its regret and noting that its handler has been suspended pending their investigation of this incident. Additionally, their dog did not appear injured and received a wellness exam from TSA veterinarians.

According to some who have seen firsthand what happens with TSA dogs, their treatment was far different. It's hard to imagine this sort of cruelty happening with all these witnesses present who did nothing to intervene or stop the handler; I had always assumed TSA dog handlers are animal lovers that treat their animals well; unfortunately this guy seems like an exception.
