Art of the hand and mind-from 2 directions - by Shray
For me the experience of creating is bold-exciting — it captures me, my mind-the techniques, need the focus, the colors, the line shaping the form-all in slow motion-
I watch — stand still — as my body seems to communicate with another me…so rapid is the action, it pulls all the knowledge, skills, techniques out of me, draining me, in each rapid gesture of the palate knife. forms taking shape like a burst of gathered awareness-
I lean on the lines for support-the cubes take shape, I rest my mind on their edge, as more is pulled from me-so fast-constantly shifting my own weight as I watch the shapes gather strength in their own completeness.
As if standing still-i rest my body-my critical analytical mind on to the very emotions laying bare, in front of me while the event of the creation, is flying by me at the speed of light.
The critical voice, it will speak up challenging the movement the placement of a shape.
Saying, ’you are not conforming’ it is heard by me, but not absorbed, not acted on.
For if I give it to much credence I will fall, the creation will shatter. For it is the freedom, from that voice that is from the other direction of me.
if i listen, i become static.
For you-is there clarity?

7 年Hi Kevin, Thanks for your feedback-indeed these struggles, are one of life's larger challenges-what is true, to ones self? Do we miss lead our selves, without knowing we are doing so? An extension of the pressure applied to us when young, to conform? thanks so much for your own insight. i have decided, that i and my mind-need to you use the human figure freely- they burst forth, emerging when ever i start to make something, and every-time this happens, a little voice scream out- No-no no-do you want to make something that is considered trite? Passe’? It declares in the inquisitive… well i am older now-so, I am not going to be swayed by it any longer. i do not care anymore what critiques think-they do not live in the minds of artists, they do not see the hands fly across the canvas, the clay, un-hitherd by either, controlled not by concern of contempt, or approval- For, the process, once controlled by knowledge-wisdom and skill-is the unique beauty. for really what is art, but if not of the human heart? thanks for looking and listing… shray
