Trying to be productive

Trying to be productive - it has its good days and bad. Like today. There are tasks to complete, but no amount of staring at that excel or my powerpoint is accomplishing that goal. I tried the coffee, but it has now settled into an uneasy lump.

I am sure everyone of us has such off days. I have read multiple suggestions to beat those blues - take a break, listen to music, read a book, start something new. Some of these work - but there are days when nothing seems to work.

"If doing nothing makes you happy, then you are doing something". It takes considerable effort to do nothing. Frankly the information overload on our senses affects our minds. We are constantly thinking - including what to think. I suggest taking a break - from thinking.

I tried the below, and I must say, surprised myself:

  1. Allocate a no-thinking zone - it could be one a month/ once a week. You are the boss.
  2. Do not try anything new or challenging during this time. Just routine that needs to be done. Eat, Sleep, Pray
  3. Don't do too much of interactions with external parties - friends, family and more important at work. A bit of self realization.
  4. Start knowing the direction of your thoughts. What thoughts occupy your mind space the most. Or despite your best efforts, what keeps coming back.
  5. The Point 4 above would be your thought to action.

I admit it takes a while to get the hang of it. But if nothing it ends up giving you the quiet time you deserve.
