Trying to find missing products at IBC
Fintan Mc Kiernan
CEO at Ideal Systems (Singapore) Pte Ltd --- Systems Integration for Broadcast AV and Cloud
With IBC around the corner, I have started my show planning. While looking through the exhibitor list I’m struck by how many companies focus on making similar if not the same products. I find this a bit strange, do people like competition so much? Every week I’m inundated with emails from Chinese LED wall manufacturers, how many do we really need?? Similarly, how many companies need to make encoders and decoders. I know a lot of people who attend IBC and NAB for that matter, do so in-order-to compare the offerings from the different manufacturers, as do we at Ideal Systems. But what is the mechanism where we are looking for products that don’t exist. Surely this isn’t possible with thousands of exhibitors cramming the halls of the RAI in Amsterdam, every possible product iteration or combination is covered. Well, this is not the case, there are missing broadcast products, and furthermore I wonder is there any forum that focuses on these gaps in the market.? Surely there are biz dev people in existing companies and entrepreneurs out spotting all the opportunities and maps in the market for missing products, well if they are, they are asleep, or too busy jumping on other peoples band wagons. My frustration is stemming from a specific product that has been missing for a while, and I assumed would have come along by now, but still no sign. There is a clear market gap and business opportunity for native NDI ENG and Studio and Sports Cameras. I can’t figure out why these have not been “invented” yet !!!!? There is an abundance of Native NDI PTZ cameras, used for studios, and sports as well as live events. These Native NDI PTZ offer excellent quality and value for money, we have had particular success with BirdDog from Australia. But the trail goes cold here, there are one or two manufacturers making NDI-HX camcorders, like Panasonic Broadcast & ProAV Europe and JVC Professional Video . But these have fixed lenses and don’t offer the higher quality native NDI option. As a major advocate for NDI technology for its simplicity, quality and cost effectiveness, it’s a real slap in the face that we can’t offer Studios, Sports Productions and Event high quality solutions where camera men are required without using cameras with SDI outputs and subsequently SDI to NDI converters.? Why are we still stuck with SDI.? Sure there is 2110 IP outputs, but in the majority of the Asian market, cost is king, and 2110 just adds to many zeros to the cost of the systems to be economically viable. Hence my support of NDI, IP solutions at a price that fits our Asian market. So if anybody has any contacts with the camera guys, will you forward them this article as I can find the appropriate missing products forum. Many thanks, see you at IBC.

1 年I applaud this request for innovation! I think “noblesse oblige” is valid for innovation leaders like BirdDog , Panasonic Broadcast & ProAV Europe , NewTek and JVC Professional Video - happy to help hete with extra power with PoE++, network processing and other plumbing considerations.
