Trying to do business while fighting cancer

Today I’m doing my 14th Chemo Therapy. I have stage 4 adenocarcinoma. Today from 8 AM to about 2 PM I’m hooked up to the machine. Because my veins are pretty scarred, they now pull my blood from the surgically implanted med port.?

Today the labs came back as ok, so they are doing the chemo, but the guy next to me had bad numbers so they didn’t do his chemo and sent him home. This has happened to me in the past a few times and they would just send me home to recover and would do blood tests every week until my numbers are good then they put me back on chemo.?

I am able to do work from the hospital and generate some money to pay bill collectors. I have learned that more and more people are getting cancer now. My advice is if you are an American and get cancer, make sure you are wealthy. It helps to have money. There are tons of things that rich people can do to fight cancer that someone just with health insurance can’t. And make sure you do have great health insurance if you are just a working person or own a small business that doesn’t make a lot of money.?

Since I got cancer, I have been out of work for a long time and right now I have a few small jobs and am lucky to work with them they all know I have cancer so when I have horrible days I don’t work. Last chemo I had 3 to 4 horrible days, where I was so sick and weak I couldn’t even eat just lay in bed and cant’ do any work for employers.?

I’m writing a Kindle book right now and a course that I’m hoping to publish to generate some income to pay bills while I’m sick since my caner will never get cured and it’s slowly getting bigger and worse.?

I’m happy to have this LinkedIn account since I met so many great people who shared their cancer stories and help me learn what and how to do and I think this is one of the reasons I lasted more than a year when the oncologist told me that 95% of similar stage 4 cancer patients don’t live past year 1.?

In any case, I wanted to share that I plan to keep working on Linked and try to be a useful member of society. I just filed taxes for last year and it’s the least I made in a long time mainly after they took out my colon, stomach, and lymph nodes, I have not worked for a long time. That being said now I have good days with energy and I was able to do almost half a dozen webinar training and due to that, I was able to pick up employment.?

I think working in an office is probably out for me and will never happen. As a cancer patient, I had to ask myself what kind of business can I run??

The main thing is that when I get super sick I can take 3 to 4 days off and not work and this can happen every 2 weeks on average and sometimes more. Most companies will not work with me under these conditions. So I’m now trying to regroup and figure out a way to generate income under the new circumstances I find myself in.?

One other thing is that I can’t have stress. My oncologist is big on this one. So what kind of business can I do which has no stress and lets me take 3 to 5 days off every few weeks with no notice? Well, that is the goal for this year for me to figure it out. Here are some ideas which I’m working on and hopefully some will come to fruition:?

  • Quora Answers. I start a few months ago by answering questions on Quora. I like answering questions and now I have a small following. I do 1 to 2 answers every day if I feel OK that day.?
  • Youtube. My plan is to take the best questions and make a video on Youtube with the question and answers.?
  • Blog. I just finished the blog and will use the Youtube video to write a blog post around it and post it. Down the road, this might start generating some Google Adsense revenue.?
  • Kindle KDP. I’m 7 chapters into my first KDP project on Amazon. Not sure how much money this can generate but I can at least use that to generate traffic to my WordPress blog.?
  • Courses. I writing a course parallel with writing the Kindle Ebook. I’m hoping to sell the courses cheap to people who don’t want to pay me to do the work but also some don’t want to hire me after I tell them that I might be sick so I can offer this to them. In any case, it’s something I can sell and cut down on the work that I do myself.?
  • Newsletter. I’m planning once I have enough content to start a monthly newsletter. I’m hoping to have some ads and affiliate offers in there to help generate some income for the business where I again don’t have to do the work.?
  • Outsource the work. Right now I do all the sales zoom meetings but I also deliver all the work myself. The goal is to outsource this or stop it all together since it’s something that deep down is not fair to those who hire me even though I disclose everything and I’m 100% transparent they still probably should hire someone who is not sick.?
  • I have an idea for a few apps and always wanted to build one. I think I might give it a shot this year.?

I hope this is not too depressing for you to read. I have come to terms with my situation. I thank God for every day and look at it as a bonus. I’m 100% at peace with my situation. It’s hard to believe this but my life has never been better. I feel blessed in a way.?

In any case, I’m not the only person with stage 4 cancer to run a business I’m sure there are more out there and many who make way more profit than me. One of the reasons to write openly about this is to meet some of them and hopefully talk to a few. I learned that being open about it helps. I have been transparent and open and plan to be that way. If you are in a similar situation feel free to reach out.

I’ll give updates from time to time as I learn to transform my business on LinkedIn. Writing about it helps me as well get clarity on the situation.?

Thank you for reading this. Feel free to post comments or email/message me directly.?

Regards,?
