Trying To Achieve Your Zen, You Came To The Right Place!

I wanna first of all thank you for reading my brand new newsletter series :)

I was so hesitant to start writing but they say, if we want to change the world, we better change ourselves first.. so here is a promise that I made to myself that I need to show up and if one person can benefit from reading this and does make a change, I did my part.

When people ask why I practice yoga daily, I always say it’s more for my mental health than anything else. Living with anxiety, I’ve found that just folding like a pretzel and finding my calm, along with sleep are my go-to strategies for staying connected to myself.

But it didn't start this way .. I didn’t come to yoga because life was peaceful—I came to yoga because I was broken. As a child of physical and emotional abuse, I spent years struggling with trauma, insecurity, and self-hatred. After surviving years of pain, abuse, and even a suicide attempt, I knew something had to change.

In the middle of my deepest struggles—while battling PCOS, severe weight gain, and cystic acne—I found myself in a hospital bed, where I had a vision of a healthier, more flexible version of myself. That vision felt impossible at the time, but it stayed with me. Years later, that same vision led me to my first yoga class.

It wasn’t just about physical health. Yoga became a pathway to healing my emotional scars, releasing the anger and hatred I carried, and reconnecting with myself in ways I never thought possible. Through yoga and meditation, I healed my body, lost 69 lbs, cleared my skin, and, more importantly, learned to trust my intuition and forgive those who wronged me.

Yoga gave me the tools to not only survive but thrive. It transformed my life, and now, I use the power of yoga to help other professionals release their trauma and reclaim their own power.

And now its your turn to turn the tables, if you have an illness, a health condition or if you are on meds, keep reading

Yoga isn’t just about physical health – it’s a powerful tool for mental wellbeing too.

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."The Bhagavad Gita

But remember, everyone’s journey is unique. While exercise works wonders for me, it’s part of a broader care toolkit that I have. The goal is finding what works for you!

So, whether is stretching for 10 mins or doing a full session of 45 mins of sweating through yoga, just moving your body could be a game-changer for your mind. ???

Why Yoga Helps?

Mental health is a critical component of our overall well-being, and yoga plays a significant role in maintaining and improving it. For many, doing yoga is a way to not just stay physically fit, but to manage stress, anxiety, and even depression.

Studies have shown that engaging in regular physical activity can significantly reduce symptoms of mental health disorders. In fact, exercise can be as effective as traditional forms of treatment like psychotherapy or medication.

  1. Chemical Release: When you practice yoga, your body releases endorphins, often referred to as ‘feel-good’ hormones, which help elevate your mood and reduce feelings of pain.
  2. Improved Sleep: Gentle yoga promotes better sleep quality, which is essential for mental health. Good sleep helps regulate mood, reduces stress, and allows the brain to recover.
  3. Stress Reduction: Yoga reduces the levels of stress hormones in your body, like adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, which act as natural painkillers and mood elevators.
  4. Enhanced Cognitive Function: Regular physical practice improves memory, learning, and cognitive function, which can help in managing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Tailoring Yoga to Your Needs

Different types of yoga can benefit various mental health conditions:

Here are three different types of yoga, each tailored to specific needs:

  1. Hatha Yoga – For Beginners Seeking Balance - If you're new to yoga or looking for a slower pace, Hatha yoga is a great choice. It focuses on basic postures and breathing techniques, making it ideal for those who want to build strength, flexibility, and mental clarity without rushing through movements.
  2. Vinyasa Yoga – For the Active and Energized - If you’re craving a workout that synchronizes breath with movement, Vinyasa yoga is perfect. This dynamic style offers a flowing sequence of poses, making it great for increasing heart rate, building endurance, and cultivating mindfulness on the move.
  3. Restorative Yoga – For Stress Relief and Deep Relaxation - For those seeking deep relaxation and recovery, Restorative yoga is designed to calm the nervous system and relieve tension. With long-held, supported poses, this practice is ideal for people dealing with stress, anxiety, or fatigue, promoting a sense of inner peace.

Conclusion -

While yoga is a powerful tool for improving mental health, it’s important to recognize that it is part of a broader toolkit. Each person’s journey to mental wellness is unique, and finding the right combination of movement, sleep, and other self-care strategies is key.

So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider taking off your shoes and rolling out your yoga mat – your mind will thank you.
