Try This On Your Next Holiday To Be A Better Leader!

As we approach summer, many of us are looking forward to a well-deserved break. This is a valuable time away from the business to do something different, with different people, and if you’re lucky, in a different location.

Whether you are new to leadership or a seasoned pro, one thing is certain: as a business leader, making decisions becomes tougher as you become more successful and your teams grow more complex. Think about all the factors you have to consider before making a decision: fear of failure, conflicting priorities, fear of criticism, groupthink, bureaucratic constraints, and emotional influences, to name a few.

So, this summer holiday, preferably on day one, I want you to take 10 minutes to consider: what changes would you make if you didn’t have to consider any of the factors above? If you knew you couldn’t fail, what changes would you make? Write them all down.

Then, forget about them and retun back to enjoying yourself. Then the day before you return to work take a read through the list. Does the list still make sense now that you’ve had time on holiday? How do you feel about those changes? Do you still believe those changes are the correct ones?

If the changes are still important to you, then I encourage you to have the courage to implement them.

Taking a step back and reflecting during your holiday can provide you with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. This exercise can help you identify what truly matters and empower you to make decisions that can drive positive change in your business.

Enjoy your break, and come back ready to lead with clarity and confidence.
