Try getting your laundry done in Gobernador Gregores

One early morning before driving off to the project, I dropped off a weeks worth of laundry at the hotel. The story was that it would be ready that night when I got home from work. After returning from work at 8 pm I went up to my room to wash my hands for dinner, no clothes. I went down to ask the lady and she fired off a bunch of words and waved her arms a lot. Ordinarily I get about 70% of what is said, but this time I got nothing but the body language suggested that she too agreed that my laundry was not in my room and that it would get there when it was good and ready.

I met Carlos in the dining room and mentioned this to him. He scurried around the corner to the front desk and the lady had been swapped out for a young guy who said my clothes would be ready in my room after dinner. Two hours later after dinner, no clothes. I went back to the guy and he had put it in the wrong room. I finally got my plastic bag of laundry and it was still pretty damp. Even worse, they’d put it in a bag that had previously held like a loaf of bread and now my damp clothes were covered with bread crumbs. Shake and bake laundry, nice. Or as Samuel later described it, ropa en croquant.

Also: My socks were missing. I went back down to the guy and he said the socks weren’t dry and they would bring them to my room later that night. It’s now 10:30 pm so I said the morning would be better. The next morning I go down to breakfast and the lady is back. I ask her for my socks and she said they had needed an extra cycle in the dryer and they were ready now. I stood there. She stood there. Looks like a standoff and I lost, she’s not going to waste her time crossing the room to get my socks till she’s good and ready. I skull off to work. Decided against mentioning the breadcrumbs, she didn’t strike as someone open to constructive comments. Let’s see whether my socks are there tonight! I also dropped another days worth of laundry off in the morning and we leave tomorrow morning!

Got my socks. Also damp, no crumbs.

Argentina...the black hole for dirty laundry.
