Try not to get too emotional…

Emotions?are a tough thing for me to talk about. They can make or break a decision, a friendship, a relationship, deal. Killed more than a few careers.

As a guy who’s become more stoic, yet still has things that get to me and bother me, that affect different areas of my life,?emotions?are hard.

At times I think I’m analytical when I’m really not and just using the data I choose to use. Because my?emotions?got in the way of my thinking clearly.

Then other times I can detach from a situation and have a neutral view. Or even do things that aren’t in my personal best interest because I know it’s in the interest of the other person. Like it wouldn’t harm me, but it wouldn’t help me.?

Because doing the right thing is the right thing. Which could be twisted into doing the right thing for you, and not for the other person. Doing right by your customers, the people who give you money, they are the people we need to do the right things by, because they keep us going.

Since life is highly?emotional, how do we regulate this in our lives? We need some type of?emotion?to move into action. Whether it’s anger or excitement, or somewhere in between. That?emotion?gets us in motion.?

We need some type of?emotion?to get moving, yet we can’t let?emotions?control us. We’ve all seen people quick to anger and they lose their temper and regret it later. Or someone who tears up at everything. How about the person who’s super excited about everything?

In all these scenarios what happens next is crucial. The angry person who can control it, take a breath, and walk away took control. Rather than going to violence or yelling. The sad person, who takes a second to compose themselves and regains control rather than having it debilitate them for hours. Or the excited person who gets right to work rather than just talking about it.?

We all have?emotions unless you’re a psychopath, but that’s less than 1% of the population. We’ll leave them out here. Because we have?emotions?and put how we feel towards productive action. Whether it’s through grief and helping us to move on, or our excitement about a new project.?

Our?emotions?should help us move forward rather than hold us back.?
