This week, I have learned some more truths about why people work and what makes a great workplace.
I’m excited to share what I found out during my ongoing coffee chats while doing research for my upcoming book, and what makes a truly great work life.
In addition to getting money to buy stuff they need, and stuff they don't need, people work to be happy!
Here are the top 5 truths that people shared, and I found to be consistent across all types of jobs and industries:
- The best workplaces are respectful, and people feel valued. On the opposite end, one of the biggest turn-offs for people is ‘office politics’, especially where they feel used or under-valued. Check out my article on Workplace Politics.
- The best workplaces are where people work collaboratively, and have a chance to grow, learn new things and build a community.
- The best workplaces are where people know what is expected, they are challenged, and thrive with a sense of accomplishment, and have an opportunity to elevate their performance.
- The best workplaces help people gain confidence - a great work life helps boost self-worth and makes people strive to be the best they can be, even in times of change, where top workplaces rise to the challenge and maintain or increase productivity.
- The best workplaces are where leaders are focused on their people, they demonstrate the values in action, and recognize people for their contributions. Leaders have a great influence on the organizational culture, and how it influences effectiveness.

7 年Thank you Winnie Linker MBA CHRL ? for working on very important subject. Most of the people disengaged and unhappy at work. It shouldn't be that way. We spend most of our time at work. I don't know why company owners and upper management don't pay attention this subject. They are loosing money with disengaged employees. I read Stephan Covey's books. He talks about trust one of his book. I believe that best workplaces are where everyone trust each other.
