Truth for today: “Bullets"?

Truth for today: “Bullets"

Here is some ammunition, to be written on 3x5 cards and muttered under our breath today in the battle.

"Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth--a stranger, not your own lips." Proverbs 27:2

"If anyone among you thinks he is religious (worthy to be a pastor, a leader) and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion (his service and worship of God) is worthless." James 1:26

"Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness (self-righteousness, pride) and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls."

"But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only (just talking about it) deceiving yourselves." James 1:26,22

"Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this WARNING: Don't think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourself by the faith (to move mountains) God has given us." Romans 12:3

"Don't be selfish (only thinking, talking about yourself); don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves." Philippians 2:3

"I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already achieved perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me." Philippians 3:12

"Being confident of this very thing, that He Who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;" Philippians 1:6

The Holy Spirit of Christ in those born again by grace, through faith in Christ, do good because of a new Spirit in them....God completing the good work He started.

Many, in these times of isolation, confinement, solitude, remoteness and depression, call in the stories of good things they have done to a radio or news station: tell everyone I’m feeding the poor, making masks for first responders....to be recognized, to be thought a hero.

The Bible says:

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose your reward of your Father Who is in heaven.” Matthew 6:1

For those who have rejected salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ....are like the Israelites who turned away from God, worshiping false gods. They did good things occasionally, yet God was repulsed by their so-called good deeds.

You must be washed in the blood!

The Bible says:

“We have all been infected and impure with sin (all of us have become unclean, dirty), and all our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags (a garment soiled with body fluids). We all fade like a leaf, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.” Isaiah 64:6

“Unto the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and their conscience is defiled (soiled).”

“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable (causing moral revulsion) and disobedient and unto every good work reprobate (beyond hope of salvation).” Titus 1:15-16

Be careful not to praise yourself.

The Bible says:

“For it is not the one who commends himself that is approved, but the one whom the LORD approves.” 2 Corinthians 10:18

“For who makes you superior? What do you have that you did not receive (from God)? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

“But God gives us more grace (undeserved favor). That is why scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

“Humble yourselves before the LORD and He will lift you up.” James 4:6,10
