Honesty and Truth represent the act of?being accurate and true to the best of their knowledge. Honesty is the act of being honest, which indicates that a person is acting honestly or is genuine in his/her acts. Truth is the expression of honesty, it is the act of being not in favour or unbiased. “The Truth will set you free”. With it comes freedom and with freedom, comes happiness and joy.?In fact,?being honest has many advantages over telling lies.
Tolerate less nonsense. When you are truthful and honest, you will see that fewer people like you. When fewer people like you, guess what, they will not be interested in spending time with you. Or, better yet, even if they spend time with you, they won’t discuss some topics with you. It is true, especially when they cannot handle the truth. They would prefer to hear something pleasing to their ears, rather than listening to or accepting the bitter truth. Tolerating less nonsense is a benefit of being honest because you now have fewer things to worry about in your life. Another benefit is that, when you tolerate less nonsense, people know their limits. Hence, fewer people will cross personal boundaries with you. Also, a truthful person does not want to impress anyone by twisting the truth or calling lies as truth. Being honest and assertive is an essential step in?setting boundaries in your relationships or family.
Gain true friends. When you are honest and truthful, do not expect to have a ton of friends. Though it is possible to have many friends, it is not always the case. You might have very few friends, but the real benefit of being honest is that your friends will be your real friends who will not be shy to correct you when you are wrong. They also know that you would be honest with them and call them out if they ever lie. In my opinion, it is good to have friendships that have a sense of accountability for individual actions. Also, your real friends would be the ones to stick with you through thick and thin.
Earn trust and respect. When you are honest and truthful, you are not spitting out different opinions at your convenience. Instead, you stick to the facts and speak the truth, and people might hate you for that. Sometimes, some people might be taken aback by your straightforwardness and your honesty, worse yet, they might also think you are rude for speaking the truth. When you are honest with yourself, you would also have the courage to accept your faults in front of others, because you are not trying to save your face by lying.
Basic example?of building trust with an audience:?If you were to give honest product reviews about a product, people are more likely to ask you again for your opinion on another product. It is because they trust you, and you have credibility in their eyes. When you are honest, people can see it, and they know that you are not doing a product review for a show or to earn money.
Be at peace and have no regrets. Being truthful helps you be at peace with yourself and others. Hence, you have no regrets. Once you start lying, you need to lie more and more to protect the first lie. If you have a spiritual life, it also makes you right with the living God. It will also help you be your authentic self without caring much about what others think in the world.
Get more done in Life. When you are not looking to please others, and you are truthful and honest, you really could get so much more done in life. You have time to pursue your passions.?There is no limit to what you want to do because you are truthful and honest with yourself, and you are not looking to please others. You can get more things accomplished in life because you do not have tolerance for things that don’t matter. It gives you a lot of time to pursue what really matters to you. When you prefer the brutal truth instead of a sugar-coated lie, you become an expert in seeing through the lies. Hence, you would spend less and less time fretting over it. These lies could be rude remarks towards you or uncalled-for judgement on you or whatever. But you would care less about it and more about being true to yourself and enjoying the things that life has to offer without any guilt. It would help you accomplish much more in life, rather than wasting time on the lies, that others spread about you.
Freedom. There is real freedom in being truthful and honest with ourselves and others. It develops integrity of character and helps you live a free life mentally. Most problems start in our minds. So the more honest you are, and the more you yearn for the truth, the freer you are in your mind. With peace comes joy and in this way, you can enjoy all that life has to offer.
Working relationships. The truth about trust Honesty and integrity at work Trust underpins?effective working relationships. The more someone trusts a colleague, manager or team member, the greater the likelihood they will co-operate, share information and work effectively together.
Restore confidence and trust. So the question is not “How can we get people to trust us again?”, but should be instead “What can we do to become trustworthy?”. Organisations need to focus on the process of getting there, rather than the result. It will take time, there needs to be consistency in behaviour and there’s an element of forgiveness that needs to be addressed. Forgiveness means that the forgiver needs to believe that you won’t behave that way again. Declaring your best intentions don’t work, it needs to be seen. Being trustworthy means that people in your organisation behave ethically because it’s the right thing to do, not because it will make people trust them again. A reputation for trustworthiness is, again, not something you can just anoint yourself with. A solid reputation is bestowed upon you and comes through an accumulation of other people’s personal experiences of you and your work.
Media. Truth and Honesty in the Media. In a world surrounded by mass media, we depend on truthful and honest information to form accurate conceptions of current events and issues. Journalists, editors, producers and broadcasters should and could do their best to convey information that reflects the truth. Truth and the public's right to information should be the basic foundation for all journalists. One reason for the importance of truth in the media is that it demonstrates respect for people as ends rather than as tools to be manipulated. In other words, it should not be used to influence or control society but rather to benefit it. The public depends on the media to discover and report societal problems and issues that they themselves would never have the chance to know about. The media is the one way to get a message that is of extreme importance across a nation within minutes. Another important aspect of truth is the building of trust between individuals and society's institutions. When the public knows they can trust the media and they are honest in their reporting, their trust grows more for society as a whole. Also, truth is essential to the democratic process. In a democratic society, the media is the primary source for truthful, accurate and meaningful information. It also tends to be fair and avoids biases. Failure to promote truth and honesty will most likely result in society's loss of confidence, respect and trust in the media. The news media plays a very significant role in today's society. Millions of people turn to the media for the latest news and information. The media is responsible for preparing and delivering news programs accurately and honestly to maintain public interest. They are also responsible in evaluating the newsworthiness of all broadcast items and recognizing the public's right to know. The Media are to be kept accountable with facts being presented honestly, fully and fairly. This applies to all news stories, columns and editorials.
Business. Truth is a powerful marketing tool - and really the only way to promote a message and brand effectively. Truth in advertising has long been something to ignore, or at least downplay. The role of advertising has been to position and manipulate brands to convince consumers that they're imbued with qualities they don't necessarily possess or presume to tell them which one's matter. It worked when the brand's voice was the only voice, but with the rise of social media, that era is over. Some Marketers have focused their messages on entertainment, creating funny or engaging campaigns that win awards but don't always sell products or tell the truth. Consumers determine what's true, and smart companies have realised that every communications medium can and will be used to contribute to those conclusions. Tell the Truth in the content and context of marketing communications. Truth yields a true competitive advantage.
Government and accountability. When the economy of a country is based fundamentally on the principles of truth and honesty, that nation experiences economic stability. If a country successfully translates the principles of truth and honesty into their social life, then that country experiences peace, tranquillity and serenity. The social crisis is minimised in such a society. There is a high level of understanding between different ethnicities of the land. Social issues and problems are resolved in a civilised manner. It is possible to have a rather tranquil political atmosphere in any given nation. The secret is to put truth and honesty as the foundation of the political structure in that nation. Under constitutional government, those who govern are regularly accountable to at least a portion of the governed. In a constitutional?democracy, this accountability is owed to the electorate by all persons in government. Accountability can be enforced through a great variety of regular procedures, including elections, systems of promotion and?discipline, fiscal accounting, recall, and referendum. The most obvious example of this two-directional flow of responsibility and accountability in the?electoral process. At the end of the term of office, the electorate has the opportunity to?judge?the government's performance and to reelect them or dismiss them from office. The official has thus rendered his account and has been held accountable.

“To be honest is to be real, genuine, authentic, and bona fide. To be dishonest is to be partly feigned, forged, fake, or fictitious. Honesty expresses both self-respect and respect for others. Dishonesty fully respects neither oneself nor others. Honesty imbues lives with openness, reliability, and candor; it expresses a disposition to live in the light. Dishonesty seeks shade, cover, or concealment. It is a disposition to live partly in the dark.”?— William J. Bennett,?The Book of Virtues
