The TRUTH of Homelessness
There are several videos on YouTube showing tours of some of our once great cities.? I just watched one from Seattle.? I lived on the west coast for a period and have very fond memories of visiting this city. I was there first doing the Seatle World’s Fair, The Century 21 Exposition held between April 21 and October 21, 1962. I was one of the almost 10 million visitors it drew. Several years later I attended a conference there and, again, have memories of attractions such as Pike Place Market and going back up on the Space Needle. This video showed a vastly different Seatle.
I have written before on homelessness and its plaque on our cities. According to the State of Homelessness: 2023 Edition ?January 2022 PIT Count,?582,462 people?were experiencing homelessness across America. This amounts to roughly?18 out of every 10,000 people1. The vast majority (72 percent) were individual adults, but a notable share (28 percent) were people living in families with children.
Continuing information in this?report by the National Alliance to End Homelessness concludes, homelessness has been on the rise since 2017, experiencing an overall increase of 6 percent. In 2022, counts of individuals (421,392 people) and chronically homeless individuals (127,768) reached record highs in the history of data collection. Unsheltered rates are also trending upward, impacting most racial, ethnic, and gender subgroups.

Homeless services systems continued to expand the availability of both temporary and permanent beds in 2022, but these resources still fall short of reaching everyone in need.?Our migrant-obsessed administration, however, continues to send another screw you to the American people in the form of beefed-up assistance for illegal immigrants. Year-round, millions of Americans are homeless or one paycheck away from being on the streets. Forty thousand veterans are homeless across the nation, and 40 percent of our homeless population is Black.?And yet almost all the attention about the problem is on illegal immigrants.
The population of unauthorized immigrants in the United States has been estimated to be around?11.39 million people, a number which has seemingly stabilized after a period of rapid growth. However, studies show that the amount of?alien encounters?by the United States Border Patrol has significantly increased in the last few years, with 2,214,652 registered alien apprehensions and expulsions recorded in 2022.?As these individuals are dispensed in areas all along the US Border and to large “sanctuary” cities throughout the country, the question remains…where will they live?
